Knowledgeable, informed, intellectually curious, responsible, self-aware, self-motivated, independent and set for success in their future careers. These are characteristics we want all our students to have.
To help our students achieve their full potential, we've created two sets of principles: the ºÚÁÏÈë¿Ú Student Charter and the Hallmarks of a ºÚÁÏÈë¿Ú Graduate.
Thanks to our exceptional teaching, facilities and student experience, our students are empowered to meet and exceed the expectations in the Charter, and develop the characteristics outlined in our Hallmarks – and in doing so, set themselves on the path to a successful and fulfilling career.
Hallmarks of a ºÚÁÏÈë¿Ú Graduate
We support our students to gain the Hallmarks of a ºÚÁÏÈë¿Ú Graduate throughout their time at university.
Subject and Discipline
You'll have an excellent understanding of your subject.
Hallmark 1. Understand the principles, practices and boundaries of your subject discipline
This enables you to have a critical and reflective knowledge and understanding of your subject and your competency in the subject area.
Hallmark 2. Be intellectually curious, and able to think independently, analytically and creatively
This enables you to engage imaginatively with new areas of investigation within and across discipline boundaries.
Society and Citizenship
You'll be an active member of society, and a good citizen.
Hallmark 3. Generate ideas and develop creative solutions of benefit to society and the economy
This means you can synthesise new and existing knowledge.
Hallmark 4. Be responsible, respectful, informed and active global citizens
This means you have developed a cultural intelligence and an understanding and appreciation for diversity. It means you have a commitment to, and responsibility for, inclusivity, social justice, ethical practice, wellbeing and sustainability.
Hallmark 5. Be effective team players
This enables you to provide leadership and also to support the success of others.
Hallmark 6. Have an enterprising and innovative spirit
This enables you to create value to others through recognising opportunity. This allows you to bring original thinking and productivity to the groups and communities to which you belong.
Personal Competencies
You'll be able to engage with and communicate information in various contexts.
Hallmark 7. Be able to locate, access and critically engage with information
This means you can purposefully use current and emerging digital technologies.
Hallmark 8. Be able to communicate clearly and effectively
This means you can communicate both in a range of forms and contexts with diverse audiences.
Hallmark 9. Be able to work in a range of environments
This enables you to respond positively to new situations by being aware, flexible, adaptable and realistic in your expectations.
Personal Development
You'll be proactive and confident in your career and life decisions.
Hallmark 10. Be self-reflective, embrace challenges and seize opportunities for development
This means you can be proactive in recognising and addressing personal and professional development needs. This enables you to be confident to make informed career and life decisions, and achieve personal growth.
Our Student Charter
Created by a partnership of students, staff and the Students’ Union, the ºÚÁÏÈë¿Ú Student Charter is a shared set of principles that staff and students agree contribute to an outstanding student experience. The charter supports students to demonstrate the Hallmarks of a ºÚÁÏÈë¿Ú Graduate.
