Anglo-Korean Security, Cybercrime and Economic Crime Academic Network (AKSCECAN)

A network based on strong links between members of our Centre for Cybercrime and Economic Crime and researchers in South Korea

The Anglo-Korean Security, Cybercrime and Economic Crime Academic Network (AKSCECAN) was founded in 2023. The network is a culmination of the joint Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) funded project led by Professor Mark Button, Professor Julak Lee, Professor Joon Bae Suh and Dr Vasileios Karagiannopoulos - .

Building upon already strong links between scholars in the two countries, the leaders of this project are resolved to do more to work together on their common areas of research in security, cybercrime and economic crime, and to encourage other scholars in the two countries to join this network and do the same.

The network resolves to:

  • Conduct research on security, cybercrime and economic crime in the UK and Korea
  • To work together on joint research projects
  • To bid for funding together to facilitate research projects
  • To publish research together
  • To host regular events in the two countries to which members of the network are invited both in-person and online
  • To encourage greater partnerships between relevant UK and South Korean universities
  • To encourage student and staff exchanges

Join AKSCECAN

The network is open to any academic or professional with an academic interest in security, cybercrime or economic crime based in the UK or South Korea.

If you would like to join the network, please contact the relevant secretary in your country

Research projects

  • This project seeks to build a network of researchers in the UK and South Korea interested in fraud and cybercrime against older adults.

It will do this by conducting research using desk-based strategies and interviews mapping the strategies used to counter fraud/cybercrime against older adults in the UK and South Korea; any evidence of their effectiveness; and to explore the potential for technology to be better utilised.
