Sohavi studied BA (Hons) Architecture and Interior Design with us and worked with the Creative Careers team to secure a placement with RPA Group
One of my priorities when I was looking for a university was somewhere that offered a placement year. As I was brought up in a busy city, the sea also attracted me to ºÚÁÏÈë¿Ú.
The highlight of my course has been going on – I am so grateful for the experience and the support of the Creative Careers team. My placement was at RPA Group, a global architecture and design and project management consultancy. I learned new design software, was introduced to the professional side of a practice and had a great team to support me on my learning journey.
My third year would also be another highlight. We are being pushed and encouraged by the tutors to be the most creative we have ever been.
During my placement, I was taught how to use the Revit software which I was really excited about when I started. I am now able to apply this knowledge of using the software to produce designs for my third year projects. Additionally, I am better at time management and I have built the confidence to try and tackle obstacles that I am having with my work.
The architecture industry is looking for potential employees at this time of year and with the previous experience I have in software, communication skills and general professionalism, I hope my CV will stand out.
The brief of my final major project is to provide a space for 3D craft artists to co-work and be advertised in a commercial setting, so that the community can support them by buying their products. The brief was inspired by how capitalism and online shopping have recently taken over from the novelty of crafted goods where you get to know the maker.
